Maybe you've noticed the 2026 Red Sox, each time they stand on second base after a double, have put both hands on their head and looked toward the dugout. Some have danced in the position, and lately -- like Trevor Story on Tuesday -- they'll wag their finger at teammates.
We now know the origin of the celebration. Manager Alex Cora, during a Tuesday radio hit with WEEI in Boston, said there's a TikTok video of "one of the players" by which the dance is inspired.
Thanks to some internet sleuths, the celebration appears to be courtesy of a young Roman Anthony -- Boston's 21-year-old budding superstar. Anthony hopped on the early TikTok trend of mimicking choreography to popular songs, this time to the tune of Mariah Carey's "Obsessed."
"I saw [the celebration] for the first time in Cincinnati, and I turned around to one of the coaches and said, 'Now I've gotta explain to my boys what that is all about,'" Cora joked with WEEI. "And, in the hotel, boom. They were locked in. Right away."
The Red Sox bats have started slowly, sitting 23rd in MLB with 39 runs scored as they've gone 3-8. But they secured a big win Tuesday night over the Brewers behind ace Garrett Crochet.
Maybe the good vibes can keep rolling with more Anthony-inspired dances on the bases.
"I truly believe you build relationships in Spring Training. They go out for dinners, they hang out in the clubhouse," Cora added. "Where we're at right now is a good learning experience. It's a young team that got off the blocks slowly. We're learning, but we're getting better."
