MONTREAL - As part of Black History Month, the Canadiens are celebrating Quebec's Black community at the Bell Centre on Saturday.
For the occasion, the team collaborated with MALICIOUZ, a Montreal-born painter and muralist with Haitian roots, to create a custom logo for the game.
Her murals featuring Black identities can be found in cities around the world, and on Saturday her latest work will be displayed throughout the Canadiens arena.
"The vibrant colors in the frank-gazing face are my way of representing Black excellence," described the visual artist, who is also currently featured at the Musée de la Civilisation in Quebec. "For me, it's a way of seeing the world, and being self-aware in the face of life. It's the stance, demeanor, frankness, and authenticity we carry through life, guided by our heritage and freedom to be ourselves."
