DAVID Beckham will be honoured in a TV show that celebrated the lives of Nelson Mandela and Muhammad Ali.
The 50-year-old is to be featured in a new series of BBC Two's A Life in Ten Pictures, which will examine extraordinary lives through iconic images.
A photo of him holding his arms aloft as he celebrated was the first of many unforgettable images of the footballer, who went on to marry Spice Girl Victoria and head one of Britain's most famous families.
A TV insider said: "Becks changed our perception of masculinity, celebrity and football.
"Through fashion, trendsetting and marrying one of the world's best-known pop stars he created a new kind of sports celebrity.
"And at every stage that was captured in pictures that will be instantly memorable to millions."
The show, set to air later this year, will also feature talking heads explaining the importance of each photo in David's life.
As well as football highlights, the images are likely to include one of David wearing a Jean Paul Gaultier sarong in 1988 and posing with Victoria in matching leather outfits in 1999.
It will also look at other moments where he influenced culture, such as his many radical haircuts, tattoos and donning nail varnish - all style flourishes most men would have balked at prior to him showcasing them.
But the images are also likely to feature him as a husband and a family man, both elements which came to characterise him far more in later life.
