Fans wanted to see Big Boys win the Memorable Moment award(Image: BBC screengrab)
BAFTA viewers said they were "gutted" after a critically acclaimed programme missed out on an award.
The TV Awards were broadcast on Sunday night (May 10) on BBC One and were hosted by Taskmaster's Greg Davies.
Channel 4 comedy Big Boys, which centres around a university student grappling with his father's death and exploring his sexuality, was nominated for the Memorable Moment award. However, it was pipped to the post by a moment in Celebrity Traitors.
Numerous viewers tuning into the BBC broadcast were disgruntled, sharing posts on social media claiming that the series was "robbed" and should have clinched the accolade.
The moment was competing against comedian Alan Carr's victory on Celebrity Traitors, a scene from police drama Blue Lights and scenes from Adolescence and What It Feels Like For A Girl.
Last One Laughing was also vying for the award, which is determined by the UK public and honours moments of on-screen magic, reports Wales Online.
In the Big Boys moment [spoilers], the narrator (Jack Rooke) visits Margate in the present day and converses with old mate Danny (Jon Pointing), who teases Jack about his adult life.
Danny eventually confirms Jack's suspicions that he hadn't made it, and had actually passed away. The pair then reflect on their friendship with adult Jack discussing how tragic it was to lose a friend so young.
BAFTA viewers were far from pleased to see it miss out, with one posting on X: "Celebrity Traitors moment of the year?! Big Boys made me cry, I still can't make it through that episode without tears rolling down my cheeks. First BAFTA I've not agreed with this year."
"I'm biased because Big Boys is one of the best things I've ever watched, but that 'I didn't make it' clip still makes me cry every time I see it and is defo my winner," remarked another viewer.
A different person shared on the platform, formerly known as Twitter: "Big Boys not getting any awards is insane."
"Big boys incredibly robbed," commented someone else.
Another fan of the series concurred: "Big Boys was robbed. One of the best TV shows I've watched recently and that memorable moment was like a gut punch."
