Four critically-acclaimed movies to watch on Prime Video this September
Every month, Prime Video gets a bunch more movies, and September 2025's no different. Amazon's streaming service added dozens of new movies to its collection, meaning there's bound to be something new for you to stream on Prime Video, whether you're all-in on blockbuster action, searching for a movie you missed in theaters, or on the hunt for a hidden gem.
If you haven't got the time to comb through Prime Video's September 2025 lineup, you don't typically have much time to dedicate to scrolling through Prime's endless carousels, or you just struggle to decide what to watch next, allow me to step in. Every month, we highlight a small selection of critically acclaimed movies that have managed to bag at least a 90% rating on the review aggregate site, Rotten Tomatoes.
While everyone has different tastes and a score only tells part of the review story, that threshold typically indicates most viewers had a good time with a specific title. Therefore, there's a solid chance you'll enjoy them, too. Below, I've highlighted four new-to-Prime Video movies that have bagged a top score on Rotten Tomatoes, and when you can stream them (if they're not available at the time of publication).
Steven Soderbergh's suspenseful spy movie "Black Bag" is due to hit Prime Video in just a couple of days (at the time of writing), and if you failed to catch it on the big screen, I'd implore you to watch it now. "Black Bag" is a stylish, sultry, and impeccably crafted spy thriller, and it deserves to be held up as one of the best releases of 2025.
Largely, "Black Bag" hinges on two characters: married spies George and Kathryn Woodhouse (Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett, respectively). George is tasked with investigating the leak of some top-secret software... and learns that one of the five suspects is Kathryn. To get to the bottom of things, George invites all five suspects to a luxe dinner party to tempt out their secrets, and the investigation plays out from there...

Alfonso Cuarón's "Children of Men" is a blistering sci-fi thriller that throws us forward in time (now by only a couple of years) to London in 2027, where humanity nears extinction after women somehow became infertile two decades ago.
As a result, civilisation is ready to collapse. The U.K. stands as the last nation, but has closed its borders and transformed into a totalitarian police state. It's within all this chaos that we meet Theo (Clive Owen), a bureaucrat who agrees to help transport a woman called Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitey) to a safe haven that's dedicated to solving the crisis. Intense, immersive, and utterly striking, "Children of Men" is a must-see movie.

In the mood for action? Paul Greengrass' 2007 action thriller "The Bourne Ultimatum" could be the Prime Video watch for you. "Ultimatum" is the third feature in the series, and sees Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) continuing his globe-trotting search for answers about his lost identity... all while trying to stay one step ahead of "The Company" and dodging the people who want nothing more than to silence him for good.
If you can't bear the idea of diving into the series partway through, Prime Video actually added the first four Bourne movies this month, so you can definitely go back to where it all started, but "Ultimatum" is the only Bourne movie of the four that meets our 90% threshold.

If you'd prefer to watch (or revisit) a classic this September, then Prime Video just added John Sturges' iconic based-on-a-true-story epic, "The Great Escape." This fictionalized World War Two thriller throws us in with a group of Allied soldiers, including American Captain Virgil Hilts (Steve McQueen) and British Squadron Leader Roger Bartlett (Richard Attenborough), as they mount a daring mass escape from a high-security German POW facility.
More than 60 years on from its release, Hughes' "The Great Escape" remains an exciting watch and is (rightly) still regarded by many as one of the best movies in the genre.
